Curriculum

Key Stage 3

Key Stage 3

In KS3, students study a wide range of subjects building on KS2. Students will study English language and literature, Maths, Science, RE, PHSE, PE, History, Geography, music, art, technology, computing and a foreign language.

Students who need it will have access to a reading programme and catch-up literacy and numeracy programmes. At the end of year 9 students will select their options for a two-year KS4.

Key Stage 4

There are two pathways in KS4.

All students will study for GCSEs in English language and literature, Maths, Science (at least 2 GCSEs), RE and one humanity (History or Geography). All students will also have one hour of PHSE per fortnight and one hour of PE per week, but these courses are not examined.

Students in the A pathway will study one foreign language. All other subjects will be available as an option choice, and students will all have the opportunity to study both History and Geography if they wish to do so. In the B pathway, all other subjects are offered as an option choice, including foreign languages.

The curriculum includes enrichment activities that help to develop our students as independent, lifelong learners and builds their cultural capital. Time is provided for high-quality PSHE and impartial careers advice, particularly to Year 9 and Year 11 students as they progress into the next stage of their education. Our aspiration is that our Year 9 students are engaged, informed and enthusiastic about their chosen pathways prior to embarking on KS4 courses and that Year 11 are clear about the post-16 options available to them.
